So we took head shots of each student from a full set of angles like this:
These were then printed out in black and white (2 copies per student) and a page with a variety of shapes was presented to the students. The students each chose their own shape and two colours of construction paper. The shape was cut out of one colour and mounted to the other with glue stick. This became the face shape. Students then cut and glued features to the "faces" with freedom to place as they saw fit and to select which features to use. Seeing me do it first created a sense of fun and laughter, and really made them feel free to rearrange space and forms as they wished. The whole thing was then repeated so that they ended up with 2 face collages. They had to choose their favorite one to frame for the display and the other was the key to our next step in the project..... Here is my Collage - I let the students help me pick and place the part :) They had real fun doing that and it helped to break the ice for them to do their own afterwards ---->
